Simple Things Volume 7

I like to celebrate life in the simple things. Every week I take pictures of things that made me smile. Here are four of mine:

Broken Fans: We had two fans break on us this week. The first one had a motor burn up and this one broke off its base. I smiled because instead of throwing it away instantly, my first thought was to try to figure out how to fix it. After a sledge hammer, an old stove drip pan, sticky foam tape, bathroom molding, and a couple other things I finally gave up. The Husband is going to have to craft a new base because I couldn’t manage.

Soy-Free Soy Sauce: I can’t eat soy or any soy bi-products. This week I made another batch of homemade soy-free soy sauce. It isn’t quite how I want it, but it is slowly getting closer to the flavor I’m looking for.

New Things After a Long Wait: My can opener broke many months ago. I think I broke 4 different can openers in the last year. You know when you go to open a can, you squeeze the can opener and hear a pop as you puncture the tin for the first time? That is what I have to do around the entire can. I have been saving survey money to be able to get a can opener and I finally made my goal. It isn’t here yet, but I’m looking forward to the luxury. The food scale is something I’ve been dreaming about for years. I got it so I could qualify for free shipping…at least that is how I’m justifying it to myself.

Coffin Beds: These are the boxes from the trampoline the girls got last week. It makes me laugh that an 8 and 10 year old can still find so much enjoyment in a box. They made coffins and slept in them a couple nights this week. They have drug them outside, made bunk beds, and filled up hours using their imagination. I love it.

Those are four simple things that made me glad to be alive this week. What are some of your week’s highlights? Share with me in the comments.
