Fulfilled Fridays 20

Fulfilled Fridays is back!

After an extended break for the holidays and because I was sick, it is time to once again celebrate why our lives are fulfilled.

This week I am blessed because of today.

Today I get to have a girls’ shopping day with Miss Crafty and The Inventor. It is going to be so awesome seeing them spend their Christmas money. Miss Crafty is getting some hermit crabs so today she is getting things to set up her crabitat. The Inventor has fallen in love with Legos. She is looking to add to her collection.

Above all I’m excited to see my girls learn. They have a budget. It is going to be interesting watching them decide how to spend their money, and make those tough decisions. It will be a great learning experience.

And I am so thankful to have the opportunity to share it with them.

Oh, and keep your eye out for pictures on Instagram. I’m sure I’ll have some.

Today I’m being short and sweet.

I have been fighting a very nasty cold. It has knocked me down and even the simplest things like doing laundry is a challenge at times.

But this week has been full of some ups too.

[Tweet “It has been a huge #blessing to have my family help out while I’ve been sick.”]

Miss Crafty has taken over the house. She is doing some laundry and nearly all the cooking. She is helping her sister when she needs something, and is really taking care of most of the things around the house. I am so grateful for her.

Today I am sending my husband to the store with a very detailed grocery list. We only grocery shop once a month and it has been over 4 weeks since I’ve been to the store. Our cupboards are getting bare. I can remember every time over the years he had to grocery shop for me because I couldn’t make it. Times like when I gave birth, or was recovering from surgery, and now this.

It has been a very humbling week full of hidden blessings indeed.

Hopefully next week I’ll be back up and going again.

Until then…..thanks for stopping by for another Fulfilled Fridays.

Winter is so beautiful.

One look out my window at the snow that still blankets the ground a week later reminds me of how beautiful it is.

The freezing cold temperatures set in this week and everything turned white, pure, pristine. The hoarfrost coated the tree branches with crystals every morning. A unique design, changing every day.

It was quiet, peaceful, gentle because most animals were staying inside their homes. Cars were muffled as the snow absorbs road noises.

Life continued all around, but at my house, at the end of our dead-end road, everything stopped for a while.

Brought on by winter.

I’m used to this. It happens every year.

But there was something new in the storm. A few days ago I looked outside and saw silver glitter floating down through the sky. It wasn’t rain, it wasn’t snow, it wasn’t even freezing rain, it was God’s glitter.

Temperatures were so low that any moisture left in the air was freezing. The sun was shining across a fresh blanket of snow and reflecting back into the sky. Those reflections were bouncing off newly formed crystals, giving the illusion of glitter.

It was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. I stood there staring out my back window mesmerized by the site. It is one of those things I’ll never forget and will watch for next time on a cold day.

And in that moment, I was reminded at the wonders and beauty God gave us. He could have made the world boring, the same thing day after day, but He didn’t. Instead he paints a fresh picture each morning, ever changing the landscape, even if it is just so subtle, and occasionally he throws in a surprise–and makes conditions perfect so it rains glitter.

Winter has arrived where I live.

It seems odd because last week we were in the 50’s. It snowed all day yesterday and we got somewhere between 2 and 3 inches blanketing the ground. I just looked outside, we got another 3-4 overnight.

It is so beautiful. The snow covers everything leaving behind nothing but white.

It is so quiet. People stay indoors so sounds of cars are few and far between. The snow acts as a buffer of sorts, absorbing the sounds of playing children. Even the animals hide and don’t make a peep.

It is so cold.

Every year I cannot help but enjoy the beauty, but my next thought is always of those who do not have a house. I think of those who spent the night huddled under a bridge somewhere, or shivered in a car.

I know the lucky ones were able to cram into a community shelter. Shelters that have more bodies than beds in them tonight. Shelters that do the best they can, but the demand is greater than they are able to provide.

I know that after this snowstorm we’re supposed to drop another 20 degrees. Last night will feel warm compared to this weekend. I feel for the parents who have to tell their children, “I know it is cold, snuggle in a little tighter and it will help,” knowing their is nothing they can do.

So today, on this Fulfilled Friday, I will look out my window and enjoy the beauty that God has surrounded me with while drinking my cup of coffee. I will pray and thank God for my roof and the walls around me. I’m thankful my husband has a job so we can afford to leave the heaters turned a little higher on these cold nights. Oh, I’m thankful, so very thankful for the basic things that surround me.

And I’ll pray for those that don’t have heat, warmth, or even a roof. Things I take for granted, but things that definitely make my life much more fulfilled.

The big talk in my region has been the weather. What is the weather like where you live?

My children definitely give me lots of joy. This week was no different.

I watched them play carefree and enjoy the beautiful fall weather we’ve been having.

They have been spending many hours a day on the trampoline and have mastered some new skills. It isn’t unusual to see one doing a front flip or attempting a hand stand without a worry in the world.

Meanwhile, I watch them through the window and cringe with mom worry. I can just picture one of them landing wrong and breaking an arm or worse. But I refuse to give into my fears and spoil their fun.

And then there was yesterday. The Inventor and I walk to the library every Thursday afternoon. Sometimes Miss Crafty joins us–yesterday she chose to stay home. Our walks have become a special time. We talk about all kinds of random things, often whatever animal or plant happens to be in her sight.

My greatest joy comes from watching her enjoy her surroundings, and simply be a kid. Yesterday she chose to do cartwheels, run backwards, and do handstands on the sidewalk for nearly a block. She didn’t care about what others thought, she didn’t notice the smiles from other adults simply enjoying her happiness, she was lost in her moment.

It makes me realize that sometimes I just need to forget about what others thing and enjoy the moment too. So with a sudden burst of energy I decided to join her. We had a backwards race 1/2 way across the park.

Something funny happened. I didn’t notice anyone around but my giggling daughter. There may have been others watching us, there probably was, but I couldn’t tell you. I was lost in a moment, a moment with my daughter we will cherish together for a long time.

What was the highlight of your week?
