Fulfilled Fridays 4 and Link-up

Welcome to Fulfilled Fridays!

A place where we can celebrate and share what makes life great.

My girls were gone on a trip until late Wednesday evening. It was awesome. I loved every minute of my mini-staycation. I loved deciding what to listen to on the radio or watch on TV, doing what I wanted whenever I wanted, eating ice cream for lunch without having to share, and the silence.

Oh the silence. After the first couple days I was completely used to the silence. I didn’t need a radio or fan on for background noise, I simply sat in quiet at times during the day. Even the clicking of the keyboard or hum of the computer seemed too loud at times.

Then they came home.

Yesterday was quite the opposite. Talk about sensory overload. I was surrounded by 2 chatty girls who wanted to share their stories and memories. We had lots of catching up to do!

During their vacation they forgot that they’re supposed to take turns when talking. It is hard to listen to 2 different stories at the same time. Maybe that is why God gave me 2 ears, one for each story.

I laughed and smiled as I heard about their 2 year old cousin. The girls are not around young children too often and he is a typical 2 year old boy. Being 8 and 10 year old mini-mamas they loved it.

I heard about hikes and walks. I heard about swimming and geo-caching. I heard about trying to share a room with a 2 year old and how that lasted a mere 3 hours.

As sensory overloaded as I was, I was so happy to hear of the wonderful memories my children had made.

I sat and listened to their stories and noticed that it wasn’t about the activity. Each story was told with equal enthusiasm. It didn’t matter if they were out doing something special, or just playing at someone’s home, it was about the people there.

It drove home the message:

And I smiled and laughed with my girls all day long yesterday.
